Block course: 1 - 13 July.
Available to 1st year students
.

SRES2010 Australia’s Forests introduces students to Australian forests, the values we have of them, and the demands we make on them.

The course runs as a 9 day block: 4 classroom days (1, 11-13 July) and 5 field days (2-6 July).

Classroom days comprise lectures, seminars and workshops.

The field course is based at Laurel Hill on the western slopes of the Snowy Mountains. Our program emphasizes learning from the locals - Aboriginal people; farmers; national park, forest and land managers; and industries – and each other, including student mentors.

We learn about environment, cultural heritage and land management, and about ecological restoration, recreation and sustainable production. We also develop important field skills in an orienteering challenge exercise.

Proposed Assessment: field course report, workshop facilitation, mock Senate exercise, topic review.

Text Book: None prescribed.
