12:30 pm on Friday 18th July in the Forestry Lecture Theatre.
The speaker is Mr. David Montgomery, a leading potato grower from Crookwell,
NSW. David will talk on:
"2008 International Year of the Potato"
2008 the UN International Year of the Potato aims to raise awareness of the
important role the potato plays in agriculture, the economy and world food
security.

Kavitha Robinson, the new School Administrator. Kavitha will manage
the administrative team of the Fenner School and provide advice to the School
Leadership on School Administration matters. She comes from the ANU College
of Law where she was the Assistant Manager of the College Outreach and Administrative
team. She is a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's staff development scholarship
which she is using to fund her study towards a MBA. Kavitha also has a Bachelor
of Arts with majors in Mathematics and History, a honours in History and a
Graduate Diploma of Education. For any issues or feedback regarding the school's
student administration and human resource functions, please see Kavitha. She

FORESTRY BUILDING
The Fenner School annual International Lunch will be held on Friday 25 July,
in Room 102, Forestry Building. It is a potluck lunch with an International
flavour! All staff, graduate students and honours students are invited to come
along and contribute something delicious from your particular cuisine.
For contributions of either a main dish or a dessert, please sign up on the
list in the Forestry front office (see Mayumi Hay, or let Jess Drake know),
or in Hancock building office (see Di Wallace).
If you are bringing a meat dish, we will ask you to specify what it is. If
your dish is spicy (ie hot), we will ask you to put a Chilli Rating on it (1-5
scale).
Soft drinks and juice are provided. BYO alcoholic drinks.
Come along, enjoy some wonderful food, and relax before the semester begins
in earnest.

The book 'Troubled Waters' edited by Patrick Troy will be launched on Thursday
17 July.
The launch will be by Graeme Hugo who will launch the book at the conclusion
of his Toyota series public lecture on 'Population and Water'. (see Hugo lecture
flyer on noticeboards)
The launch will be in the Copland Lecture theatre at 6.00pm.
An electronic version has now been published online. The direct URL address

Events from the Upper Murrumgidgee Catchment Coordination Committee newsletter
UMCCC General Meeting. Come along to the UMCCC meeting on 30 July where
ActewAGL staff members Graham Crostin and Stacey Thompson will be talking about
their work on the Murrumbidgee to Googong project. The meeting will be held
in the Monaro Room at the Queanbeyan Community Centre in Crawford St, commencing
at 9:30am. As this topic is generating a lot of discussion, can you please
ensure that the UMCCC meeting information is passed through your networks.
Back Paddock Dreaming – Visions of Sustainable Landscapes Greening
Australia invites you to a free event hosted by James O'Loghlin from the ABC's
The New Inventors and a line-up of respected thinkers who will describe their
visions of sustainable landscapes through personal stories encompassing water,
climate change, conservation farming and biodiversity. The event will be held
