In the northern summer of 1903, the distinguished Australian ornithologist Robert Hall (1867-1949) and his young assistant R. E. (Ernie) Trebilcock (1880-1976), took a very long detour on a voyage from Australia to England. Hall was the author of a number of ornithological publications, and co-author of some books on nature study.
